The lively agricultural city of Furano (富良野) is said to mark the geographical center of Hokkaido. Tourist-friendly attractions and dining options dotted around the city so you won’t miss out anything. In summer, Furano is crowded with gastronomists, holidaymakers and cyclists.
In winter, the city’s international ski resort is occupied by skiers and snowboarders coming from all over the world.
Furano’s main attractions are rather spread out, so you will need to use a rental bike, taxi or local public transport.

Northern Hokkaido’s largest and busiest ski resort, Furano has hosted FIS World Ski and Snowboard events. There is a variety of scenic terrain at Kitanomine and Furano zones, both are linked by a slope and a lift. If you make a day trip by bus from the city center, the main base is Kitanomine Zone. Ski or snowboard equipment hire is available.
40min walk from Furano Station / 30min walk from Gakuden Station
The city-managed winery sits on a hillside with small lavender gardens and it provides a look into wine-making methods. Free tasting is available on the 2nd floor overlooking the city (don’t drink and ride a car or bicycle). It is 2.5km northwest of JR Furano Station.
Furano Cheese Factory

About 3km southwest of the city center is this enticing dairy products complex in the trees, where you can taste a variety of cheese, ice cream and pizza using local ingredients. You can making cheese, butter and ice cream here.
Furano has a spread of accommodation near the train station and the ski area. Kitanomine is a perfect base for skiing and plenty of hotels, pensions and condominiums.

Get off the train at Furano Station.
From Sapporo: take the limited express train to Takikawa (50min) and transfer to the local train on the JR Nemuro Line to Furano (60min).
From Asahikawa: local trains run from Asahikawa (70min) via Biei (45min) on the JR Furano Line, stopping at Gakuden.
From Sapporo: Chuo Bus operates approximately hourly Kosoku Furano-go (高速ふらの号) buses between Sapporo Station and Furano Station (2.5hr) via Kitanomine-iriguchi (北の峰入口), the nearest bus stop of Furano Ski Area.
From Asahikawa: Furano Bus operates Kaisoku Lavender-go (快速ラベンダー号) between Asahikawa Station stop 9 and the New Furano Prince Hotel (2hr) via Asahikawa Airport, Biei, Furano Station and Goryo 4 (御料4線).
From Obihiro: Three intercity buses North Liner (ノースライナー) run between Furano Station and Obihiro Station (2hr 40min). Compulsory reservation.
Furano Bus (ふらのバス) operates the city lines to the following destinations from JR Furano Station:

Immediately to the left as you exit JR Furano Station, the Lavender Shop Moriya (ラベンダーショップもりや) has rental bicycles including MTB. Free luggage storage is available for guests.
