Nakashibetsu (中標津) is considered the center of the Konsen Plateau and a transport hub for other areas. The town is accessible from Sapporo, Kushiro, Shibecha or Nemuro by bus. There is an airport close to the town center.

A 56-hectare family-friendly park on a hill at the southern side of the airport contains an impressive egg-shaped visitor center, playgrounds and walkways. Airport shuttle buses stop at the gateway.

Yuyado Daiichi is a wonderfully onsen ryokan on Shibetsu-gawa, with wooden indoor baths, riverside female-only and mixed (kon-yoku) open-air baths. There is also a private bath for guests. Free transfers from Nakashibetsu’s airport or bus terminal are available for guests (request in advance).

Getting There

AIR

Nemuro-Nakashibetsu Airport (根室中標津空港) is 4km north of the town center. The airport terminal has a rent-a-car counter. You can purchase air tickets at Nakashibetsu bus terminal.

Four airport buses (operated by Nemuro Kotsu), timed to meet all flights, run between Nakashibetsu Airport and Nemuro (1hr 40min), stopping at Yume-no-mori-koen-iriguchi (夢の森公園入口), Nakashibetsu-yakuba-mae (中標津役場前), Nakashibetsu bus terminal (9min), Betsukai Purato (42min) and JR Attoko Station (65min).

BUS

All buses in the region pause at Nakashibetsu bus terminal (中標津バスターミナル) in the town center.

Hokuto Kotsu and Nemuro Kotsu operates the night bus Aurora-go (オーロラ号) between Sapporo Odori Bus Center and Nakashibetsu (7hr). Note: the night bus to Sapporo from Nakashibetsu stops at the Nakashibetsu Toyo Grand Hotel (中標津トーヨーグランドホテル), about 1.7km east of the town center, and doesn’t stop at the bus terminal.

Akan Bus (阿寒バス) operates buses from Kushiro to Nakashibetsu (2hr) continue to Shibetsu (標津: 30min) and Rausu (羅臼: 1.5hr).

There are a few buses from JR Shibecha Station (標茶駅) to Nakashibetsu (1.5hr) via Nishi-Shunbetsu (西春別) and Kenebstsu (計根別) continue to Shibetsu (40min) via Kawakita (川北) and the Salmon-park-mae (サーモンパーク前).

For Betsukai, Akan Bus runs daily to Betsukai-koko-mae (別海高校前). There are also airport shuttle buses for Nemuro (operated by Nemuro Kotsu).

Getting Around

BUS

From Nakashibetsu bus terminal, Akan Bus Nakashibetsu-shinai Line (中標津市内線) circle the town for the Hoyo-jo-mae (保養所前: 25-43min) at Nakashibetsu Hoyo-jo Onsen Ryokan.

Nakashibetsu Municipal Bus (中標津町営バス) is a bit hard to manage without Japanese skills but helpful for visiting the town’s popular sights. Note that municipal bus stops on request in the rural areas.

From Monday to Saturday (except holiday), the municipal bus Musa Line (武佐線) circle between Nakashibetsu bus terminal and 24sen-19go (24線19号), the nearest bus stop from Kaiyodai (開陽台).

From Kenebstsu-nokyo (計根別農協) in front of the JA building (same bus stop as Kenebetsu), the municipal bus runs to Yoroushi-onsen (養老牛温泉: 22min) on weekday. If you take the bus from Yoroushi-onsen to Nakashibetsu, change buses at Hokko (北光).
