Forest Railroad SL ‘Amemiya 21’

森林鉄道蒸気機関車雨宮21号

15min by bus from Maruseppu Station, get off at Ikoi-no-mori

An old steam locomotive for a forest railroad, the Amemiya 21 date from 1928 chug the short distance in the forest park Ikoi-no-mori (丸瀬布森林公園いこいの森). It does run on weekends from late April to late October, and daily during Golden Week and summer (mid Jul-mid Aug).

Across from the forest park Ikoi-no-mori, this museum has more than 100 species of living insects, including beetles and butterflies from Maruseppu to all over the world.

Maruseppu Onsen Yamabiko ♨︎

Adjoining the insectarium, the public onsen Yamabiko is a good place to rest after the day of play at the Ikoi-no-mori. There are open-air baths and rental towels. Closed Tue (except summer) & in winter.

Maure Villa ♨︎

20min by bus from Maruseppu Station

About 11km south of Maruseppu along the valley, the Maure Villa is a Scottish-style modern resort hotel. Western- and Japanese-style rooms are refined, two special rooms have en-suite private onsen. There are also cottages and stylish public baths. Staff will pick you up from the JR stations (Maruseppu, Engaru or Shirataki), if you request by the day before.
