About 18km south of Central Engaru, Ikutahara (丸瀬布) boast the Museum of Worldwide Wooden Toys and the pleasant onsen North King. It is one of the JR Sekihoku Lines’ best stopover points.

The Chacha World has about 10,000 cheerful and playable wooden toys around the world. Fujishiro Seiji’s Kosai Rikuri, the world largest shadow picture, measuring 9m by 18m and depicting the nature of Hokkaido, is also installed with his 30 interesting works (photography is not allowed).

Getting There

JR TRAIN

Ikutahara is on the JR Sekihoku Line. There are a few daily limited express trains from Sapporo (4hr), Asahikawa (2hr 15min) and Abashiri (1.5hr).

One daily rapid train (tokubetsu kaisoku) connects Asahikawa and Maruseppu (2hr 40min).

Getting Around

BUS

From Engaru bus terminal, Kitami Bus runs to Kiraran Kiyosato (キララン清里: 37min), stopping at the Chacha World and Ikutahara.
