RANKOSHI

▶︎ 1min walk from JR Konbu Station

Just across the footbridge from JR Konbu Station (one stop west of Niseko), Yusenkaku is a reasonably public onsen. It boasts alkalinity-rich waters and indoor baths. There is also a mid-range hotel, restaurant, shop, and park golf link.

NISEKO

NISEKO ⚫︎ BATHHOUSE

Right opposite JR Niseko Station, this public onsen has Japanese- and Western-style baths, including an open-air bath and a sauna. There are also laundries, a private bath, a bakery and a tatami-mat resting room. It is a good place for soak while waiting for a train.

TOYOURA

▶︎ 12min walk from JR Toyoura Station

About 1km west of JR Toyoura Station, this port-side, boat-shaped onsen has modern indoor and open-air baths looking out to the sea. It also has a comfort private bath, ocean-front hotel, resting room and restaurant.

MUKAWA

▶︎ 8min walk from JR Mukawa Station

Inside the Michi-no-eki Mukawa Shiki-no-Yakata (鵡川四季の館), this public onsen has an open-air bath, sauna and restaurant. There is also a top-floor onsen for guests. Try shishamo (local smelt) cuisines. It is a 8-minute walk from Mukawa Station on the JR Hidaka Line.

HAKODATE

Hakodate’s most popular public onsen is the perfect place for a soak after stroll. It has large-scale indoor baths and a star-shaped open-air bath, with yellowish brown hot water. There is no shampoo and soap in the bathhouse, but you can get spa amenities (tebura set) for ¥530.

NAKAFURANO

Nakafurano’s only onsen hotel has 15 types of indoor and open-air baths. Spacious Japanese- and Western-style rooms with excellent views of the Tokachidake Mountains. It is one of the best places to explore the region’s lavender gardens.

OTOINEPPU

▶︎ 10min walk from JR Teshiogawa-onsen Station

Hidden away at the end of narrow road from the village, this place is a tranquil location on the pleasant river bank of Teshio-gawa. Japanese- and Western-style rooms are clean and compact. There is also a free campsite nearby. Free municipal buses run from JR Otoineppu Station.

ENGARU

Immediately to the left as you exit Ikutahara Station on the JR Sekihoku Line, the North King is a convenient and pleasant onsen for railway travelers. 28 rooms are clean and affordable rates. There is also a restaurant.

KIYOSATO

▶︎ 10min walk from JR Kiyosato-cho Station

Conveniently located a 10-minute walk from Kiyosato-cho Station on the JR Senmo Line, this public onsen is a good place to soak after the day of play. An on-site hotel offers comfortable rooms and a restaurant.

SHINTOKU

▶︎ 1min walk from JR Shintoku Station

This little public bathhouse to your right as you exit JR Shintoku Station offers onsen water delivered from Tomuraushi by a tank lorry. It is a better place to soak after a stroll.
