Niikappu (新冠) is one of Hidaka Region’s top racehorse breeding grounds, and also known as the ‘Thoroughbred Ginza‘. You will find the scenic stables and lovely horses along Niikappu-gawa.

This hilltop public onsen offers pleasant indoor and open-air baths overlooking the Pacific Ocean. There is also a cafeteria. It is about 1.7km east of the Re-Cord Museum. Biratori–Shizunai buses stop here.

About 2km northwest of the Re-Cord Museum, this scenic car park is one of Hidaka Region’s best places to see the stable from outside the premises. Behind the car park is the mud volcano of Niikappu Deikazan (新冠泥火山) on the grassy hills.

Niikappu bus terminal is located in front of the Re-cord Museum next door to the Michi-no-eki Thoroughbred Road Niikappu.
Donan Bus Kosoku Pegasus-go (高速ペガサス号) runs between Sapporo Station and Niikappu (2hr 34min). Compulsory reservation by the day before. There are also local buses between Tomakomai Station and Niikappu (2hr 16min), stopping at JR Numanohata Station north gate (沼ノ端駅北口), JR Mukawa Station (鵡川駅前), Niikappu-Shinrin-koen-mae (新冠森林公園前) and Takae (高江).
JR Bus Tokkyu Tomamo-go (特急とまも号) runs between Tomakomai Station south gate and Niikappu (1hr 35min). Compulsory reservation. IC cards are available (JR passes are not available).
