The main town of Niseko (ニセコ市街), which has a beautiful scenery of the four seasons, is the gateway to the hot spring villages in the Niseko Mountains. It is also a good base for cycling around Yotei-zan.

Right opposite JR Niseko Station, this public onsen has Japanese- and Western-style baths, including an open-air bath and a sauna. There are also laundries, a private bath, a bakery and a tatami-mat resting room. It is a good place for soak while waiting for a train.

Arishima Takeo Memorial Museum

有島記念館

In a lovely rural setting with mountain views, this museum displays literature and art works of Arishima Takeo (1878-1923), known for novel A Certain Women. There is also a book cafe. The Arishima family ran a private farm in this area from 1899 to 1922. It is about 2.5km east of JR Niseko Station.

Getting There

JR TRAIN

JR Niseko Station is an alternative gateway to the Niseko Village and Annupuri Ski Area. Local trains run from Otaru (1.5hr) and Oshamanbe (1hr 20min).

For the Grand Hirafu and the Niseko Village ski resorts, get off the train at JR Kutchan Station.

BUS

Chuo Bus operates three non-reserved highway buses daily run to the Ikoi-no-Yuyado Iroha (in Niseko Annupuri International Ski Area) from Sapporo (3hr) via Otaru Station (2hr), stopping at Niseko View Plaza and Niseko-hondori (ニセコ本通). Prepaid IC cards are available.

Niseko Bus also operates local buses daily run from Otaru Station stop 6 JR Niseko Station (1hr 52min), stopping at JR Kutchan Station, Niseko View Plaza and Niseko-Hondori.

From JR Kutchan Station, Donan Bus run to Rusutsu Resort via Arishima-kinenkan-mae, Niseko-Hondori and Niseko View Plaza.

Getting Around

BUS

Seasonal buses from JR Niseko Station are operated by Niseko Bus. Check the schedule before you ride.

During the ski season, the Niseko Area Circuit Bus (ニセコ周遊バス), which travels to the Niseko Village, Annupuri Ski Area and Konbu Onsen, leaves from JR Niseko Station.

From Mid July to mid October (on Saturday, Sunday and holiday), buses run to Goshiki-onsenkyō (76min) via the Niseko Village, Annupuri Ski Area, Konbu Onsen, Yumoto Onsen and Shinsen-numa Rest House (56min).

BICYCLE

The electric-assisted Niseko Green Bike Plus (late Apr-late Oct) can be rented at JR Niseko Station Tourist Information Office.
