Urausu Town Museum

About 500m southwest of Urausu Station on Route 275, this small museum displays on Urausu’s local history until the 1960s.
02 ONSEN & RESTAURANT
Michi-no-eki Tsurunuma (Urausu Onsen)

道の駅つるぬま (うらうす温泉) ● 88 Kiusunai ● Michi-no-eki 10am–5pm, Restaurant 11.30am–8pm, Onsen 10am–9pm
This michi-no-eki (roadside station) is the part of Urausu Onsen (Day bathing ¥410) facing Tsurunuma Park. It also has take-away and local speciality shops. After a picnic around Tsurunuma Park, take a moment to relax at this onsen.

On-site pleasant restaurant Tsurunuma (つるぬま) serves up tasty udon, soy milk ramen, botan soba, tomato pasta, salad and wine for its use of local foodstuffs.

Located at the michi-no-eki Tsurunuma, this marsh park offers campsites (¥600 per tent), boat rentals (¥300) and bungalows (¥4500).
04 SHRINE & FLOWERS
Urausu Jinja

Just a short walk from Tsurunuma Park, you will find the white torii (shrine gate) on Route 275. The hillside shrine of Uraush Jinja is famous for both its lovely ezo-engosaku (blue corydalis ambiguas) and katakuri (violet trout lilies) bloom in the forest from late April to early May. You will see adorable Ezo-risu (chipmunks).

Behind the shrine is a pleasant Ikoi-no-mori Park (いこいの森公園), with idyllic rural and mountain views. It is a perfect for a picnic on a clear day.

BEST TIME On weekdays from April to October. If you have a chance, try to visit Urausu Jinja’s ezo-engosaku (blue corydalis ambiguas) and katakuri (violet trout lilies) season from late April to early May.

GETTING THERE & AROUND
Chuo Bus runs between Takikawa Terminal and Urausu Station (浦臼駅: 38min), via Shintostukawa Town Hall (新十津川役場) and Tsurunuma Koen-mae (鶴沼公園前).
Kabato-ru-go (かばとーる号): The municipal bus runs between Tsukigata and Urausu Station (浦臼駅 ● 5 daily ● 30min ● ¥400) via Tsukigata Yakuba (月形役場) at Kabato Prison Museum and Tsukigata Onsen (月形温泉) in Kairaku Park.
Urausu Municipal Bus (浦臼町営バス): Runs on weekdays between Naie Station (奈井江駅) on the JR Hakodate Line and Urausu Station (24min), stopping at Tsurunuma Koen-mae (鶴沼公園前).

Tsukigata This town is a stopover point for Urausu and it is easy to combine this travel, if you leave Sapporo early in the morning. Check the prison museum.
