釧路地方から根室地方にかけて広がる根釧台地は「ミルクランド」と称するにふさわしい、日本屈指の酪農地帯である。東京都と神奈川県を合わせた面積よりも大きな台地には、大規模な牧場に加えて総延長648kmに及ぶ格子状防風林と、網の目状の河川が入り組み、道東地方屈指の壮大な景観を形作っている。
Nakashibetsu is considered the center of the Konsen Plateau and a transport hub for other areas. The town is accessible from Sapporo, Kushiro, Shibecha and Nemuro by bus. There is an airport close to the town center.

A 56-hectare family-friendly park on a hill at the southern side of the airport contains an impressive egg-shaped visitor center, playgrounds and walkways. Airport shuttle buses stop at the entrance.

Nakashibetsu Municipal Folk Museum

This small museum within Maruyama Park (丸山公園) focusing on local history, such as agriculture and railway. It is opposite the town hall.

AIR: Nemuro-Nakashibetsu Airport (根室中標津空港) is 4km north of the town center. ANA serves Tokyo Haneda (1 daily / 1hr 40min) and Sapporo New Chitose (3 daily / 1hr). The airport terminal has a rent-a-car counter.
Four airport buses, timed to meet all flights, run between Nakashibetsu Airport and Nemuro (1hr 40min) via Nakashibetsu bus terminal (9min), Betsukai Purato (42min) and JR Attoko Station (65min).
BUS: Hokuto Kotsu and Nemuro Kotsu operates the night bus Aurora-go (オーロラ号) daily between Sapporo Odori Bus Center and Nakashibetsu (7hrs). Note: the night bus to Sapporo stops at the Toyo Grand Hotel (トーヨーグランドホテル) in Eastern Nakashibetsu and doesn’t stop at Nakashibetsu bus terminal.
Akan Bus operates buses from Kushiro to Nakashibetsu (2-5 daily / 2hrs) and continue to Shibetsu (30min) and Rausu (1.5hrs). There are also a few buses from JR Shibecha Station (標茶駅前) to Nakashibetsu (1.5hrs) via Kenebstsu (計根別: 1hr) and continue to Shibetsu (標津: 40min) via Kawakita (川北) and the Salmon Park-mae (サーモンパーク前).
Nemuro Kotsu operates local buses between Nakashibetsu and JR Attoko Station (2-5 daily / 70min) via Betsukai Purato.
