
札幌からバスで約1時間。北海道最長の大河、石狩川が日本海に注ぐ河口に広がるこの街は、サケやニシンの交易地として江戸時代から繁栄した歴史を持つ。海岸砂丘の石狩浜には道央地方屈指の海水浴場やハマナスの群落があり、近年は石狩湾新港を中心とした臨海工業地帯の発展が続く。
石狩河口橋から素朴な漁村の厚田・浜益を経て雄冬岬に至る、国道231号線沿いの海岸線は海水浴やキャンプの好適地で、夕日が美しい人気のドライブコースとなっている。
The city of Ishikari is a seaside escape from Sapporo. Hokkaido’s longest river Ishikari-gawa comes here from Daisetsuzan National Park. The coastal Route 231 for Rumoi passes through the fishing villages and beaches. This city is also known as the birthplace of Ishikari-nabe (salmon and vegetables hot pot).

Hamanasu-no-oka Park

はまなすの丘公園 / Hama-machi / 24hrs / FREE
A wilderness sand spit between the ocean and river, you will see hamanasu (rugosa roses) from June to August. The 1892 red-and-white Ishikari Lighthouse is the city’s landmark. The Hamanasu-no-oka Visitor Center (9am-6pm 29 Apr-Aug, 9am-5pm Sep-3 Nov) has a shop with observation deck. Especially the sunset scenery is emotional. It is a 15-minute walk north of Ishikari terminus along the embankment.
