Haboro Travel | Things to Do

For most travelers, the main reason to visit Haboro (羽幌町) is to catch the ferry to Teuri and Yagishiri islands. Central Haboro occupies a grid of streets with a few modesty sights.

Haboro Historical Museum

羽幌町郷土資料館 / N6-1 / 10am-4pm May-Oct / Closed Mon / ¥210

Housed in an old summary court, the town’s small museum has a collection of coal mine tools, fossils and herring fishing gear. It is a 10-minute walk from the bus terminal near the town hall.

Hokkaido Seabird Center

北海道海鳥センター / N6-1 / 9am-5pm, to 4pm Nov-Mar / Closed Mon, day after a holiday / FREE /

Behind the Sunset Plaza and its rose garden, this engagingly informative center introduces the seabirds ecosystem of Teuri-to such as Ororon-cho (オロロン鳥: uria aalge) and Utou (ウトウ: cerorhinca monocerata). You can watch a 20-minute seabirds video (ask for staff).

Haboro Onsen Sunset Plaza

はぼろ温泉サンセットプラザ / Tel 0164-62-3800 / N3-1-29 /

In the same building as the Michi-no-eki Hot Haboro on Route 232, the town’s only hotel has bright Japanese- and Western-style rooms in a good location near the ferry terminal. Half of the rooms come with ocean views.

If you are not staying, you can use an onsen (10am-10.30pm; ¥500) and a restaurant (11.30am-3pm & 5.30pm-9pm) on the ground floor. The restaurant does ama-ebi dishes such as the ebi-shio ramen, ebi-tako-gyoza curry and seafood yakisoba.
